At the young age of 9, he lived in Lorain, Ohio, but because of his asthma problem later on his family, shifted to South Tampa, Florida. He studied at H.B. He began working as comic/musician Jim Stafford’s road manager after college. In 1969, Gallagher travelled to California with Stafford, during that time he decided to perform as well. On December 5, 1975, he appeared on his first show when demonstrated his prop, and again on May 9, 1975 “The Tonight Show Home Game”. Unexpectedly, he made an appearance on The Mike Douglas Show, one on The Merv Griffin Show, and several at Playboy Clubs.
His first comedy was “As Uncensored Evening” which was shown on cable television. He remained, for the most part, a touring comedian, and he once noted that he performed “200 shows a year for 35 years. Per Variety magazine, he did over 3,500 live shows throughout his career.
In the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election, Gallagher finished 16th out of 135 candidates with 5,466 votes.
